BITTESWELL Bitteswell is a small village located in south Leicestershire, situated on the north edge of Lutterworth, and has a population of around five hundred people. Due to its proximity to Lutterworth it shares many of the benefits of the town. Bitteswell was recorded in the Doomsday book of 1086 as “Betmeswelle” from which the current name was likely derived over time.

From 1940 to 1987 the village was also host to the Royal Air Force station “RAF Bitteswell”, next to which a Hawker Siddeley factory built and maintained, among others, Vulcan bombers. The site has since become home to Magna Park, one of the largest distribution centres in Europe. Major Road Links – The village is adjacent to Lutterworth which lies on the A426 Leicester-Rugby road, and has easy access to Junction 20 of the M1, and is not too far from the A5 and M6. Education – There is one primary school in Bitteswell, St Mary’s Church of England Primary School. There are two more primary schools in Lutterworth, the Sherrier Primary School and the John Wycliffe Primary School. All these primary schools feed directly into Lutterworth High School, which has achieved an outstanding reputation. Lutterworth College is also located nearby, a highly regarded school with outstanding aspects.
